Blue Trot
Earlier this year a nice dude named Cody Karutz asked me to design a logo for his company, Blue Trot. Blue Trot is a VR video game company building products designed to encourage environmental awareness and promote adventure and stewardship among Earth's young humans. The name Blue Trot is an ode to Carl Sagan's beloved and awe-inspiring 1990 speech about a certain pale blue dot.
My early explorations took a lot of cues from national park memorabilia, merit badges, and patches, but ultimately Cody and I decided that traditional badges felt too contained — Cody wanted something that felt uncontainable (kind of like the universe).
In the end we landed on this simple little 2-color buddy. What I like most about this logo is that everyone sees something different in it. Some see a sundial, an atom with electrons, an island popping up out of the water, others see a sunset over an ocean, and others see a model of the universe with different planets, moons, and orbits.
